Descubre Cáceres, heritage on the map
An independent Android app that gathers monuments and Cultural Interest Assets, geolocated historic photographs, audio guides and heritage routes of Cáceres, built on open data from the City Council.
What it does
Layered map with places, street-level photos, aerial views and routes. Each place has a sheet with an audio guide, historic photos and a before/after comparison using the camera.
Where the data comes from
The City Council's open GeoServer (CC BY 4.0), the Municipal Historical Archive and the Junta de Extremadura; routes snapped to streets with OpenStreetMap. Not an official City Council app.
How it is built
Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, Media3 for the audio guides, disk cache and bundled data for offline use, and a custom TLS trust anchor because the municipal server omits the intermediate certificate.
